Passing the torch

June 3, 2006

It's a surprisingly calm Saturday afternoon here in Ashburn. I'm in between trips for work and I figured that I would at long last update the site. I've been on 10 trips this Spring with 2 more on the Horizon before the end of June. This would give me a total of 12 trips, or an average of 2 per month. Being gone so much means that when I get home I just don't feel like updating the diary. Plus, I've now added a new road hobby; playing video games on the laptop to kill time. Most of the places I visit these days are ones that I've already visited so much of the shine is off the apple so to speak. The last two trips I went on were great! They were great because I was able to take Tara with me. She has quit working at Starbucks and is taking on-line classes this summer. We went to NYC about two weeks ago and then followed that up with a trip to Orlando. Tara is now the family documentarian. She keeps a journal of our adventures together and posts a stunning array of pictures. She loves taking pictures of things! And she's getting better and better. I'm going to include the picture of the Statue of Liberty which is just the coolest thing. I had never seen the Statue of Liberty before and it was fun to do.

My next two trips are to Portland, Maine and then to Colorado. While I'm in Colorado Tara will be in Oregon. I'm sending her home for a week to see friends and family. I had a voucher for American Airlines that was expiring on July 1st, so I figured that i would go ahead and send her home. If I could have used it to have her travel with me, I would have but American doesn't fly well out of Dulles.

On Wednesday, her parents are coming to visit for the first time. Tara is a bit nervous, but I'm quite certain that they are going to be extremely proud of her. She's totally rocking in the kitchen and has begun to transform my tastefully appointed bachelor-pad into a family friendly environment. I'm really proud of her, she's better than advertised. I love her more than when I married her. How about that? Pretty cool. We had a great time on our trips and it's bringing us closer. What is surprising is that it isn't like we weren't close before, it's just closer. In about a month and a half we'll be celebrating our 1st anniversary. Actually our trips to NYC and Orlando were early celebrations for us.

Well, I have to fire up the grill for dinner. Sorry for the abbreviated entry. I have an announcement before I go. Starting with this diary entry, you can download an mp3 of the song that is now playing. I may run back and add the mp3's to my  old diary entries. I'll let you know if that happens.

P.S. I need a new monitor. My monitor is over 4 years old and now Red is looking very pink. The lcd flat panel monitors are coming down in price! Still, I'm not ready to spend any more money on this computer, at least not yet. I think I bought this computer in 2001 which would make it 5 years old. I've upgraded just about everything I could on this thing so that it wouldn't be completely obsolete. Talk to you later. I'm hungry.
